glad i ignored negative reviews5
bought it off ebay for $50 new. yes, it does take a little while to get used to—there’s a good chance you will feel a little irritation at first-probably on your neck. But let me tell you something: this thing shaves a gazzilion times faster than my Braun did. I used to dread shaving, especially if i missed 2 or 3 days. This shaver is a breeze to use. I use the self-clean once a week so far. If you’ve ever used a Norelco, you know what a collassal pain in the butt it is to keep it clean. And it never seems to stay clean. This system is such a breath of fresh air. just push the clean button, and you’re done.
p.s. I almost wonder if some of the horrific revues were written by the competition. seriously.

You mignt want to keep your Norelco4
I’ve been a Norelco man for almost 35 years but decided to give the Titanium a try. The Titanium intrigued me with its “Turbo Cleaner”. My Norelco always seems something less than sparkly clean despite my best efforts to clean it. Well, the Turbo Cleaner is nice and gives the bathroom a light “barber shop” scent which seems attractive to the wife. This is a plus I hadn’t expected. It appears to keep the Titanium exceptionally clean. The Titanium and the Norelco are remarkably similar with the Titanium being almost $100 less… another big plus. Then I decided to do that stupid TV type test with shaving half of my face with the Titanium and the other half with my old Norelco (the heads are almost a year old). The Norelco simply gives a closer shave. I think so, and the wife thinks so. I didn’t even tell her which side of my face I shaved with the Norelco. There is not a horrible difference but it is still one you can feel. I even waited an hour in case the lift and cut Norelco system caused some kind of swelling.

Bottom line is that the Norelco gives a closer shave. I wish it had a Turbo Cleaning system. The Titanium is still a good value however and seems like a solid shaver. I had to give it 4 starts since it seems like a quality product for the money but that lift and cut system by Norelco gives me what I want most, a close shave.

Great razor !5
This is a great razor…easily the best shave I have ever had.
I had a Norelco, but this is a much better shave, and very solidly built. I love the self-cleaning feature.

A Very Solid Mid Range Shaver that Gives a Great Shave4
I’ve been trying a lot of shavers lately and I have to say that the R-7130 gives a really nice close comfortable shave. I was surprised how much I liked it. It’s a very easy shave and I didn’t get any razor burn at all. The digital charge indicator is very nice. I don’t think I could be without one anymore. I like to know the minutes of charge time left so I don’t have to pack the cord when going away. It is a very solid well build unit. It has some weight so it feels good in your hand. The one thing that I did find lacking was a case and charging stand.

Compared to other shavers I’ve tried:

Philips Norelco Arcitec 1090 (Comes with cool accessories) — Sleeker, cooler, and a little bit better shave than the R-7130 but twice the price.
Philips Norelco 8240XL (Comes with a case) — not quite as nice of a shave as the R-7130
Philips Norelco 8040X Moisturizing Shaver (Comes with case and stand) — Hard to compare since this is a wet shaver that you can use in the shower and the R-7130 is not. I like having them both.

Pros:
- LCD digital charge indicator. Tells you how many minutes of charge are left. Mine started at 60 minutes after the first charge. That’s almost a month of shaves.
- Very close smooth shave. It handled a 3 day growth with no problem. No razor burn at all.
- You can rinse it clean with water.

Cons:
- No Case. It would be nice to have a case to protect it. It has to lay in the drawer now.
- No stand. It has to lay there and charge.

Conclusion ==> A very nice shave for the price, but the lack of accessories is a bit disappointing.

Manual razor guy pleasantly surprised4
A long, long time ago, when I was fresh out of college, my cousin sold Remington shavers and got me one for insider price. It was the old-fashioned straight-line kind. I tried it once and it irritated my skin so much that I never tried it again. I’ve stuck with sensitive-skin products like Edge and the various generations of Gillette multiblade hand razors since.

When I read about this new Remington, with its Teflon coating, I decided to try electric shaving again. I was a little hesitant at first, but when the Remington got here I decided to go for it. First of all, it’s a good size and weight for my hand, which is maybe a little larger than normal. It balances well and so it’s easy to control its movement.

Surprisingly, the shaver came charged for 60 minutes of use (even though they tell you to charge it for 24 hours before using). I really like the LCD readout that shows you how many minutes of charge are left.

I have to admit I was a little nervous about putting it to my face, after the bad experience from decades ago. I took my first shave very gently and wasn’t concerned with how close a shave I could get. This really helped me get a feel for how to move the rotary blades around my face and neck. Two days later I tried it again, and this time I tried to go for a gentle but close shave. I got a better feel for the circular motion and found that I didn’t have to press nearly as hard as I thought to get a decent shave. It helped a lot to do as they advised: pull your skin tight as you move along so that your hairs stand up as much as possible.

Bottom line: By my third try I got a good close shave and only the slightest irritation–and that was around the moustache area where it is indeed much more difficult to maneuver. I have to agree with other posters here that this is one area that needs improvement. The Teflon seems to make the shave palatable even for my sensitive skin. I felt no hair pulling at all and a fairly smooth ride across my face. I still have a ways to go in my “technique” to get a quick, smooth shave, but I really think this newfangled gadget is going to do the trick.

Updated March 23, 2009: After a few more weeks, I got tired of using this and went back to my trusty old manual razor. Then about a month after that, I ran out of shaving cream and pulled out the Remington. I kind of liked the shave, so I tried it again a couple days later. Went well again. I started using it regularly. The only negative I felt was that the blades kind of dragged over my face, even after I dried my face thoroughly after a shower. So I ordered the Remington preshave powder stick thingy and now the razor just glides over my face and gives me a perfect shave every time. No irritation. Highly recommended, especially with the preshave.
