Most Confortable shaving system I ever tried4
I had a Philips 8160XL, but it irritates so much my neck skin. After that I bought a Panasonic linear electric shaver. Again, a lot of irritation on my neck, so I gave up and returned to razor blades. After a while, I want to return to an electric razor, for the long run savings, because razor blades are expensive. So I start looking. Finally, I have 3 posibilities: Norelco 9160XL, Norelco 8020X and Norelco coolskin 7735X. I found that Norelco 9160XL shares the same cutting blades than the 8160XL, so I discarted. The Norelco Coolskin 7735X was a temptin option, but this shaver use NiCad batteries (this battery suffers from memory, and after some time, retain less shaving time per charge). Finally, I decided for the Norelco 8020X.

Shaver:
This shaver has a body very similar to the new line of Norelco: Arcitec. The shaver is build on light plastic, but feels sturdy. The body is slim and very confortable to handle. You can use this shaver on the shower. Norelco recommends that you only use the Nivea for Men shaving conditioner, but I tried with shaving gel, and I got better results in the confort and closeness department. This is the reason why I tooked one star: Norelco should tell you that you can use others products, not only Nivea (this little can cost $9.95 on amazon plus S/H).

Charging:
Is recommended that you drain the battery before charging. This will prolong battery life. Charginf take only 8 hours. You have check, because if you charge more than 8 hours, it can damage the battery. Philips should had designed a system that shut up the current when the battery is fully charged. One full charge gave 30 minutes of continuos shaving (according to manual). I used an entire week before I had to charge it again.

Cleaning:
Very easy, just rinse the shaving heads using hot water (you can easily do this while you shower, or in the sink). You don’t need special solution to clean.

Confort:
This, pherhaps is the most important area. This razon doesn’t irritate my skin. Inclusive, I can wash my face using a product with salicilic acid. My recommendation is that you use shaving gel. The shaving conditioner gave me good results, but is not so great to justify the cost. In some days, I shave twice, and cero irritation.

In conclusion:
This is the best shaving system I ever tried. It gave me no irritation on my skin, no matter how agressive my pre-shaving wash soap is. I highly recommend it to any men with sensitive skin. The closeness is similar to the one when you shave with a blade following the grain. Just skip the shaving conditioner and use shaving gel (but not too much, because you can choke the shaving heads).

Philips Norelco 8020X Moisturizing Shaving System4
A very good shaver. I use it in the shower as a completely wet system and it performs very well. The heads flex to accommodate facial contours just as advertised and overall I like the feel and operation of this unit. It is lightweight and easy to hold and use. The shave is very good, close without cutting or irritating the skin. I’ve been using electrics for some time so I’m well beyond the habituation period. I keep a three blade on hand to touch up the neck and nose areas, a good idea with any electric.

I have not used the built in moisturizer. I use a common shaving gel applied directly to the face and it works very well. This is just personal preference. The moisturizer they sell as part of the system is more expensive and not as readily available as common gel. You also are told to periodically replace the entire cassette that holds the moisturizer (sold together) for sanitary purposes. This seems a little wasteful and unnecessary. Also, use of the built-in system seems to mandate more frequent and elaborate cleaning. I may or may not use it at some point, but it is definitely not necessary, particularly when you’re in the shower.

This is not a high RPM shaver like the Panasonic wet and dry units. It does not have the same sophisticated feel as those shavers although it functions very well. It has a red light that comes on when the built-in battery is low, but does not regulate the charge like the Panasonic does. You have to put your charger on a lamp timer for eight hours or you’ll ruin the battery, which I do not believe is replaceable.

At $80 it’s overpriced. It should have a built-in charging regulator to protect the battery as do the Panasonics (although this unit is lighter than the Panasonic). You CAN ruin this unit by overcharging. You will also have to replace the heads at some point, so actual life span under daily use is open to question.

Erratic Battery Performance; Excellent Shave4
As someone who has a heavy beard, electric razors and their effectiveness are very important to me. I have owned this razor for a year now, and can offer a couple of observations: 1) I agree that the battery life is at best unpredictable. Sometimes the charge seems to last weeks, other times not. 2) The look of the razor is rather cheap, and would probably dismay you if you’ve owned Norelco razors in the distant past (10+ years) as I have. 3) Despite those two criticisms, it does what it is supposed to do, and that is give a very good shave and for the price, a very good bargain.

Electric Razor4
The batteries last a long time and recharge quickly.
Floating heads are confortable, but don’t seem to shave a closely as my previous Norelco.

Better than my Braun 8995 or Panasonic Vortex Nano5
I just got the 8260 Norelco to replace my other 2 shavers(a Braun 8995 and a Panasonic Nano). This shaver is superior to both of my prior shavers, and here’s why:
1.There is the noise issue. The Panasonic was annoyingly loud, the Braun was quite noisy, but the 8260 is very quiet. This may seem trivial, but it is nice to shave in peace.
2.The 8260 shaver truly shaves in one or two passes, and is completely non-irritating from the get-go. The Panasonic gets a little burny on the tough spots, and must be held at a specific angle to perform with it’s angled blade technology and that is very annoying. The Braun requires multiple passes everywhere.Neither of the 2 foil razors EVER shaved my neck sufficiently, but the Norelco 8260 does an outstanding job there.I know they say a foil shaver shaves closer, but the Norelco far out-performs these 2 foils.
3.The build quality of of the Norelco and Braun are very solid, but the Panasonic seems cheap and flimsy. Also, replacement blades are cheaper on the Norelco, and you can’t even find Panasonic replacements anywhere, so you have to order them from their site.
4.They all come with cleaning stands, which are gimmicky junk,in my opinion, but the Norelco version is the nicest.I wouldn’t have bought any of these with the cleaning system, but these were either gifts or the same price with the claning stands. If I could save $40 or $50 bucks,I’d buy a model that didn’t come with the cleaner (Braun 8975 or Norelco 8240).
5. The Panasonic allows wet shaving in shower or with foam, but I tried it once with foam and it was a mess. I prefer the simplicity of dry shaving.
6. The charge on the Norelco lasts WAAAYYYYYY longer that the other two shavers. It lasts like 2 weeks , and the other two only stay charged for a week
Ultimately I am very impressed and surprised at the shave I get from the Norelco 8260 Rotary shaver. I have always purchased foils due to hearing they shave closer, but I can state clearly that that is not the case with me. I would buy a Braun again( it is very well-made and reliable),but I would not buy a Panasonic.

A Great Shaver — poor peripheral design4
I have been using Norelco Shavers for over 20 years. I like the way they shave, I like how quiet they are and they are easy to maintain. The 8260 continues the tradition with an incremental improvement in the shave mainly due to the articulating head. Having said that, Norelco should either stop adding “stuff” as peripherals or pay attention their details like they do the shaver. The cleaning system actually cleans it very well; the problem as pointed out by other reviewers is that you are not supposed to leave the shaver charging. You are supposed to let it run low and then recharge to save the battery. Guess what? The cleaning cycle is long ~ 1 hour or so. In the cleaning cycle it charges and I certainly can’t wait around to unplug (or flip a lever that disconnects the power to the shaver) it after the cleaning cycle. It couldn’t be hard to design the cleaner to not charge the shaver “automagically” except when the user wishes. It is like the two items, the shaver and the cleaner were designed by two different teams that didn’t talk to each other. It is truly an astounding design oversight. I’m not sure if there is a version of the shaver without the cleaner. The cleaner isn’t really necessary and it does take up lots of counter space, it consumes expensive cleaning agent, and takes a plug (a rare commodity in my bathroom). I give it four stars because it shaves well and subtract two stars for the stupid cleaner design but add one back for the travel power off system that locks the power button so it won’t turn on in your luggage. I hope Philips reads these reviews and takes note of them — it boggles the mind that the design is so flawed from a company that does so many things so well.
