Fusion Power Razor – Surprisingly Improved But Still Expensive![]()
I have used a regular Fusion razor for a while, and a few months ago I decided to give the Gillette Fusion Power Phenom Razor a try. As far as I can tell, other than cosmetic color differences this design is the same as the Gillette Fusion Power Razor, Phantom, 1 razor and the Gillette Fusion Power Battery Powered Shaving System, 1system. I can definitely understand the criticisms but I have been surprised myself by what a difference a little vibration has made. Suffice it to say I think this shaver and the powered vibration are an improvement over previous models.
While I can understand that some accuse Gillette of a gimmick, I can say that these razor blades definitely do seem to shave closer than the Mach 3 version. So if it’s a gimmick, then I too have been fooled.
The vibration definitely seems to help the razor glide over my face more smoothly. As a result it takes less passes to get a complete shave.
Even if you are speptical but just want to find out if the vibration will help you, these are going for less than a dollar more than the manual version, the Gillette Fusion Manual Razor with Replacement Cartridge and Storage Case. So that extra 80 cents is worth finding out if the vibration helps you. If it doesn’t just don’t use the power feature and this is the same as the manual fusion.
I will have to agree that the small blade on the back of the razor is not effective for shaping. It’s just too hard to get it at the perfect angle. Still, this is a minor con, and I’m sure that some people will be able to get the proper technique with it.
The Gillette Fusion Power Replacement Cartridges, 8-Count Package may not be the greatest value out there, but these refills are what you need. These definitely come at a premium price. After using these refills for a while they seem to last longer than my Mach 3 ones did. So I can accept the premium.
The first blade that came with my shaver lasted a while, and my first refill has gone strong for a while too. I think these blades were made to last a LONG time so it’s easier to accept the higher cost of refills. Then again, by comparison the cost of the initial shaver and blade seem to be low so it’s worth giving it a try.
Enjoy!
A Nice Upgrade![]()
It’s a razor. It does its job well. I previously used the Mach3 lineup including both manual and power. The primary advantages of switching to the Fusion are (i) you get the trimmer on the back and (ii) you get a closer shave on the first pass. The disadvantages are (i) fusion blades will not work on the Mach3 handle and (ii) you will pay a bit more for these blades compared to the Mach3. If you shave all the time and you like new technology, I recommend the switch. If you shave only periodically and think all razors are created equal, stick with what you have.
better razor than the mach 3![]()
This razor works much better than the mach 3 razors and you get a much cleaner shave with it. The blades seem to last a little longer than the mach 3′s by almost 1 1/2 times. I have found that that single blade on the opposite side of the razor head is fairly useless as the angle on it makes it difficult to shave.
